The Mirror believes in user-supported journalism. We think many of you would pay to sustain The Mirror, not just because it's compelling, but if it were also easy to give, and others were doing so, too. That's why we're pleased to be one of the early adopters of Kachingle.
Kachingle is the business model for freely available content.
As the Kachingle system becomes ubiquitous, great content and services will be naturally and effortlessly financially rewarded by their avid users, which will allow these sites to thrive and expand.
For only $5/month, you can enable this revolutionary democratization of journalism!
How Kachingle Works:
1) You put $5 a month into your Kachingle account.
2) The Medallion recognizes you when you visit The Mirror. You choose to "kachingle" The Mirror by just clicking on the Medallion once. The Medallion will then count your visit every time you come to the site.
3) At the end of each month, your $5 will be divided up among the Kachingle-enabled sites you selected, based on your daily visits.
There are no "paywalls" that require you use a credit cards at every site, no separate sign-ins for every site. It's one click. That's it.
You're In Control:
Now that consumers are often producers themselves of great content, many users have come to realize that valued content should be rewarded, not just by praise, but with money, also. However, the reward has to be related to the value received, which is no longer defined by the creator, but rather by you the consumer. So the reward system (Kachingle's service) is based on treating each and every Kachingler as an individual with their own definition of value received.
With so much of human interaction now occurring online, there is now a natural desire and need for individuals to seize control and management of their online identity and reputation; By enabling individuals (Kachinglers) to identify and associate with the content and services that they love and value -- at the level that is relevant to each person -- every internet user can easily and effortlessly build and maintain a believable and viable online reputation, one they can generally or selectively reveal to others. At the same time, by contributing real money to their selected Sites, they, along with many others, are helping to insure that the creator receives real money to keep their site financially viable.
Great Online Content and Services Take Real Money to Create, Maintain and Enhance:
Kachingle's mission is to provide a "crowdfunding" service that's effortless and fun to use: It relies on large numbers of people to regularly contribute small amounts of money in exchange for recognition by peer groups via social networks like Facebook and Twitter. In the past, the cost of content was borne by the delivery channel (e.g. books, magazines, newspapers, etc.), or a parallel service that used the same delivery channel (e.g. advertising ). But now, with the internet, this unnatural pairing of content and delivery mechanisms has been broken, leaving content "free" in every way, including without any financial support
Kachingle is currently available in English only but accepts 24 currencies including Euros and Pounds (through PayPal). German and French language versions are coming soon.
